DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION, PUPIL PERSONNEL & STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Position Type: Administration Beginning: Anticipated start date of September 1, 2026 Training Period: Part-time transition and onboarding beginning August 1, 2026 Salary: Based on experience - minimum salary $115,000 Employment Status: Full-Time Benefits: Full-Time employees are eligible for health insurance, prescription, and flexible spending account. Qualifications:
- Valid New Jersey certification as a Supervisor, Principal or School Administrator.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful leadership experience in a school setting.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in special education.
- Experience working with or serving on a Child Study Team.
- Thorough knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and case law governing special education programs and services.
- Demonstrated leadership in program development, compliance oversight, and collaborative decision-making.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, faculty, families, community agencies, and service providers.
Student Services and Program Oversight
- Provide leadership and oversight for all district special education programs and services.
- Oversee student placements and specialized programming, including out-of-district and residential placements when appropriate.
- Coordinate services and supports with Child Study Teams, Guidance, school administrators, related service providers, and outside agencies.
- Collaborate with school leaders to ensure students receive appropriate services in the least restrictive environment.
- Support district-wide systems of intervention and student support for learners experiencing academic, behavioral, social, or emotional challenges.
- Provide administrative oversight of the district’s guidance departments and counseling services.
Program Development and Strategic Planning
- Analyze district data related to special education identification rates, program utilization, student outcomes, and placement trends to identify both strengths and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop and expand in-district programs that increase the district’s capacity to serve students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment while reducing out-of-district placements when appropriate.
- Collaborate with building administrators to plan staffing, facilities, resources, and programming to meet evolving student needs.
- Develop and maintain systems for evaluating program effectiveness through data analysis, performance metrics, and student outcome measures.
- Promote inclusive practices and access to grade-level instruction by working collaboratively with the principals, director of Curriculum and Instruction, Child Study Team and Guidance.
- Utilize program evaluation findings to recommend improvements to services, staffing models, and program structures.
- Assist in the development, administration, and monitoring of the special education budget.
- Identify and pursue state and federal funding opportunities that support district initiatives.
- Oversee the preparation, implementation, and reporting requirements of applicable grants.
Compliance and Regulatory Leadership
- Ensure district compliance with all federal and state laws, regulations, and procedural requirements related to special education.
- Monitor timelines and procedural safeguards associated with student identification, evaluation, eligibility determination, placement, and service delivery.
- Oversee district preparation for state and federal monitoring activities, audits, and program reviews.
- Coordinate corrective action plans and continuous improvement efforts when required.
- Maintain current knowledge of legislative and regulatory changes and advise district leadership regarding their impact on programs and services.
Health Services Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight for the district’s health services program serving students in grades 7–12.
- Collaborate with school administrators, nurses, families, and medical providers to ensure appropriate supports for students with health-related needs.
- Ensure compliance with state regulations governing student health services, records, medication administration, and medical procedures.
- Support principals and nursing staff in addressing health-related student needs and responding to emerging public health guidance.
Collaboration and Community Partnerships
- Collaborate with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to support professional learning related to inclusive practices, differentiated instruction, and special education services.
- Serve as the district liaison to community organizations, service providers, and outside agencies that support students with disabilities.
- Promote meaningful family engagement and provide opportunities for parents and guardians to better understand special education programs, services, and supports.
- Foster positive relationships among families, staff, and community stakeholders to support student success.
