Project Monarch

Last week, a group of students and teachers went to the Cape May Point Arts and Science Center to watch a demonstration of “Project Monarch”. Project Monarch is a groundbreaking tracking initiative from Cellular Tracking Technologies with the use of their BluMorpho trackers to follow the tagged Monarch Butterflies on their migration across the continent. A drop of eyelash glue is applied to the thorax of the butterfly, and this small solar-powered device (weighing 60 milligrams, or the weight of a grain of rice) is attached. Their app, Project Monarch Science, allows us to gather information using our location to aid in their research.
