Video News Production
Students had to create a three minute broadcast. They were required to write a script and provide b-roll, then they were given a “breaking” news story once we got to the completion. They had to rewrite part of the script to remove dialogue to fit the breaking news story. The students then had to work together in the television studio as a technical director, floor director, teleprompter, and host and record their best take while the judges took notes on their performance. That best take was then submitted for final judging.
Winners - Samantha Benigno, Lily Connor, Autumn Richards, Harley Siner
Crime Scene Investigation
The Crime Scene Team competed against schools from all over New Jersey. They processed a mock crime scene. This included photographing and diagramming the scene as well as searching and identifying physical evidence. They had fifteen minutes to complete this task as a team. They then had to develop latent fingerprints from one of the items of evidence from the scene and identify who that latent fingerprint belonged to. They also had to collect blood evidence and tool mark evidence. After completing this, they had twenty minutes to prepare police reports and a finished diagram of the scene. They were judged on all aspects, from report writing to diagramming, to crime scene procedures.
Winners - Katelynn Bailey, Benita Mendez Alavez, Kate Walker
