Matt, now a junior, defied the odds from birth when he was diagnosed with Transposition of the Great Arteries (TGA), a rare and life-threatening heart defect. Despite this challenge, he underwent open-heart surgery as an infant and thrived in various sports throughout his childhood.
In December 2022, during his sophomore year, Matt underwent another complex heart procedure, followed by a lengthy hospitalization. Remarkably, just two months later, he tried out for the varsity golf team at Lower Cape May Regional High School. Despite facing unexpected health complications from a paralyzed vocal cord, Matt not only made the team but consistently ranked in the top five players.
His determination paid off as the LCMR golf team clinched the 2023 CAL National Conference Championship, with Matt contributing significantly to their success. Even amid health challenges, Matt excels academically, maintaining a GPA above 4.0, and is a member of the National Honor Society while taking AP classes and advanced programs.
On February 28th, 2024, Matt underwent a Vocal Cord Reinnervation procedure to correct his vocal cord paralysis, further demonstrating his resilience and determination to overcome obstacles. Matt's remarkable journey exemplifies his strength and perseverance, inspiring all who witness his courage.
